| Lisa Lindgren Vespertine Press Release Lisa Lindgren’s recent paintings will be on view at Heskin Contemporary from May 2 – June 9, 2007. A reception for the artist will be held on Thursday May 3, from 6-9 pm. Lindgren’s imagined settings are where flowers are blossoming and bubbles float amongst bright tentacles and otherworldly foliage. All dance in the murky, strangely luminous depths of an unknown nocturnal world that comes to life. The genuineness of Lindgren’s paintings demonstrates her as an artist committed to developing a language through a mature consideration of painting’s possibilities. She uses paint in a variety of ways: semi-transparent, opaque, gestural and flat. Over time, layers of color are set into play to create organic, floral and biomorphic forms that articulate movement, light, and space effortlessly. Lindgren has re-imagined Fantasia set in an ominously beautiful place that is inventive, seductive and possibly menacing. This exhibition at Heskin Contemporary is Lisa Lindgren’s first solo show in New York City. The artist studied at the University of Massachusetts where she received her MFA, after receiving a BA at the University of Florida. She also attended the Vicenza Institute of Architecture in Vicenza, Italy. Lindgren has been the recipient of a MacDowell Colony Fellowship in Peterborough, NH, the Blue Mountain Center Fellowship in Blue Mountain, NY and was a Visiting Artist at Skidmore College in Saratoga, NY. Her work has appeared in a number of group exhibitions across the U.S. Exhibition main page Images |
